        What is effective adoption support and how does one go about getting it ?  Carrie is an adoptive mother and a social worker of great compassion who understands the needs of adoptive parents. She knows the ropes and she comes with a wonderful reputation from the adoptive families she serves. Don’t miss out on this workshop that will make you feel understood and that will help you to get what you need with regard to support for your family.

    Growing Whole Children Kathy Kantor
      Tuesday 6 March 10:30 – 12:00
        Kathy is an adoptive parent and a lecturer in health and social care. She will explore how parents/carers can help children grow into whole, fully-rounded people. Kathy will consider with the group the aspects that make up a whole person and why this is especially important to address in adopted & looked after children. Kathy will think with you about strategies for building on those areas from which the children can benefit and how parents/carers can work with them in the regard.
    Parents of Late Teens

        This is a group for parents/carers of children who are 15 yrs + who would like to discuss issues surrounding the development of their adolescent and post-adolescent young people. Sign up in advance, please.

    Panel of Adopted Young Adults - Louise, Annie, Anabel
    Wednesday 25 April, 10:30 – 12:00
      These three young ladies represent the results of personal resilience, caring families, determination and hard work by both the parents and their daughters. Louise, Annie and Anabel have all come to Our Place since they were about 8 yrs old, and we have been delighted to watch them grow into successful young women. They have graciously offered to share with parents some of their own thoughts, trials, and achievements. All parents of adopted children should find this to be a really important and insightful morning.

    Music and Identity Sarah

        In this workshop, Sarah will explore the relationships between music, selfexpression and identity. The group will look at the role music can play in a child’s life, from the simple interactive songs of babyhood to the teenagers search for identity and social acceptance through music. As Sarah is a music therapist and has worked a long time at Our Place, she will focus on how music and identity can apply to adoptive and foster families.

    Normalizing Adoption Randy

        Although Our Place exists to support and celebrate adoption and fostering, you and your children live in the real world where adoption can still be a label that stigmatizes. In this workshop, we will look at ways to think about and act upon being fostered/adopted for both children, siblings, parents/carers and extended families.
    Young Ladies Who Lunch Randy

        Randy will take a small group of the older girls out to a nice lunch in the city and an afternoon treat. Please book your place early as numbers will be limited.

  FEBRUARY HALF TERM
    Ready, Steady, Go ! - 4 - 7 year olds

        Ally will look forward to welcoming back many of our younger set for this half day -- half term event, in which the children will be making lunch for their parents/carers and will be involved in a variety of other post-Tot activities of fun and socialisation.
    …and What About the Birds ?   8 - 12 year olds

        The wonderful experts at the Zoo will engage the children in making bird feeders and bird boxes, listening to and identifying birds and generally having a day of flight and fun!
    Cooking at Bordeaux Quay ! - 8 yrs +

        What will be on the menu ? !  All of our would-be chefs should sign up early for what is going to be a very popular day of cooking with the experts.
